The Deacon Ministry develops a relationship with church families by assisting them in reaching their God-given potential. This involves proclaiming the gospel to the poor, caring for families, and leading them to experience Christian fellowship.
In all areas of this church, the deacon’s stand beside the pastor as co-laborer’s in a spiritual ministry. They not only care for the members of this church, but for other people in the community. They also serve as support for public worship care of church properties, and other needs of the church.

Mission Sisters Ministry

The purpose of the Mission Sisters Ministry (formerly Deaconess Ministry) is to strive to be a beacon for believers in Christ, and salt for those who do not know Christ. This ministry is dedicated to providing unconditional support to the church and church family in whatever capacity is necessary. This Mission Sisters are actively involved in being an example for younger women, visiting and caring for the sick, counseling those in need, facilitating community outreach services, and edifying God’s word and work through fellowship with new converts. This ministry also serves the Pastor and Deacons in the preparation of the Lord’s Supper and preparing female candidates for baptism. To become a Mission Sister requires unique qualities and are appointed by the Pastor.

Evangelism Ministry

Just as Jesus Christ came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister,” this ministry accepts the responsibility to reach out in service to others. This applies both within the church family and outside our fellowship.
The Evangelism Ministry is designed to fill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), making Disciples. This ministry works in developing spiritual maturity and reproductiveness in the life of Christians. It has several components which consist of various programs designed to meet individual needs, beginning with spiritual foundation, skills and leadership training.

The purpose of this ministry is to present the words of God in song. Singing and praising the Lord is an important part of the Worship experience. This ministry includes a wide range of musical expressions and is a vital part of the Greater Mt. Olive family.

Usher Ministry
“For a day in the courts is better than a thousand. I’d rather be a doorkeeper in the house of myGod, than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

The purpose of this ministry is to propagate the spirit throughout the Worship Service and to greet our guest and members with a pleasant smile, a warm welcome and to direct those worshippers to comfortable seating in the Sanctuary. The Ushers will also distribute church materials, such as programs and tithing envelopes, meet the needs of the Pastor, members and visitors during the Worship Service. There are adults, young adults and youths involved in this ministry.
This ministry sponsors an Annual Usher Workshop that provide the members of Greater Mt. Olive and visiting ushers with informative information to ensure their usher service is efficient and appropriate for Christian believers. The members of the Usher Ministry are required to serve Sundays during Worship as well as revivals, special programs, events and funeral services as needed.
The Usher Ministry is always excited to welcome new members to the ministry. Any member of Greater Mt. Olive that posses qualities such as kind and friendly, willing to assist with compassion, punctual and dutiful, warm and inviting personality, ability to stand for extended periods to time, flexible and multi-tasked and have an attentive and observant eye, please feel free to attend the next usher meeting.

Christian Education Ministry
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

The Christian Education Ministry provides spiritual development through the teaching and studying of the Word of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This ministry is the “Heartbeat of Greater Mt. Olive”. The aim of this ministry is to train us to edify the body of Christ. It also provides leadership development, seeks to teach a greater understanding of Christian values and responsibilities and promotes church growth and builds Christian values for the work of the ministry. Our Bible Study is entitled, “Church-In-Training” (CIT) and all Greater Mt. Olive members and visitors are encouraged to attend Church-In-Training. It provides Christian educational services and programs. This ministry facilities 40 Days of Purpose and Seminar about Stewardship. One of the goals of the Christian Education Ministry is to host “Tent Revivals” during the 40 Days of Purpose in hopes to spread the Gospel of the entire community. In addition, this ministry will be hosting an “Escaping the Debts Seminar”. Through dedicated study and teaching, the ministry’s accomplishments thus far include studying the Epistle of James, Genesis, and Exodus as well as the study of different books in the Bible and engaging the meaningful discussions about this Christian journey to all ages and offer a solid foundation for Christian living through Biblical teaching.

Married Couples Ministry
“So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.”

The purpose of the Married Couples Ministry is to promote God’s plan for the teaching of marriage through the Scripture concerning Christian marriages. Married Couples is designed to provide opportunities for married couples at Greater Mt. Olive to experience all the happiness and blessings God desires for them.
This ministry focuses on five objectives:
- Strengthening and enhancing married couples’ relationships
- Providing Christian education
- Understanding Biblical expectations concerning husbands and wives
- How husbands and wives can carry out their responsibilities to minister to one another;
- and Exploring how to communicate more effectively with one another.
Members of this ministry strive to be better husbands, wives, mothers, fathers and Christian married couples as the titles are supported by the Scripture. During the meetings discussions are meaningful, intimate real-life topics that affect Christian marriages. Occasionally, outside professionals attend the meetings to discuss information that married couples encounter. Some of the topics previously discussed are financial planning, real estate, investments, starting your own business and etc.
Members of this ministry can look forward to monthly socialization and good “down home” dining with other married couples. In addition, child care is available for those couples who wish to bring their children.

New Member Ministry

The purpose of the New Member Ministry is to affectionately greet persons who join the church by way of New Membership, Candidate for Baptism, Rededication or Watch Care. This ministry evolved to serve as a stronghold and support system for new members by encouraging them to attend “New Members Orientation Classes”, Church-In-Training, and to become actively involved in ministry. The New Member Ministry’s responsibilities are to maintain contact with the new members via telephone or email and provide information about ministry in hopes of leading new members to active involvement in church service.

Prison and Nursing Home Ministry

This ministry is designed to share the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with inmates and those in nursing homes. It offers each person the opportunity to know and grow in his or her faith. The Ministry visits the Jetson Correctional Center and area Nursing Home Facilities.

Sisterhood Ministry

The Sisterhood Ministry was developed to provide a spiritual avenue for Christian women of Greater Mt. Olive to come together and discuss issues affecting women in today’s changing society. This ministry is devoted to serving in any capacity in the church, specifically, providing assistance to those in need. The ministry delights themselves in monthly fellowship meetings which enable its members to establish rapport with other ladies in the church with similar interests, consequently, building meaningful and fulfilling life-long Christian relationships. The Sisterhood Ministry is a “family-like” support system corded by faith and hope within the larger Greater Mt. Olive church family. Members of the ministry participate in the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure”; attend the Louisiana Home and Foreign Mission Annual Women Conference and other community events. Presently, the Sisterhood Ministry has 40 active members, some of which work with the Pastor Support Ministry in planning annual events. This ministry has been actively involved in 40 Days of Purpose, and since the ministry has grown tremendously in spiritual growth.

This ministry oversees the Greater Mt. Olive Christian Academy, Tutorial Program, Summer Enrichment Program and other community programs. The staffs of these programs consist of people whose adequate knowledge of the subject areas is enhanced by a desire to help individuals excel.

This ministry is designed in part to fulfilling the Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20.
Copies of each Worship experience or special events at the church are recorded and available for purchase by way of Compact Discs (CD’s) or DVD’s. These items can be purchase before or after4 each Worship experience or by stopping by the church office during the week. The Media Room is located in the Vestibule of the Sanctuary.

Transportation Ministry
The purpose of this ministry is to provide transportation assistance to Greater Mt. Olive members and/or visitors with transportation who desire to attend Worship, Church-In-Training and any other church related functions. This ministry is also available to assist with transporting our children involved in youth activities, as well as other members to special events that the church may be participates. Members of this ministry must have an excellent driving record and must possess a valid Louisiana Chauffeurs or Commercial Drivers License.

Health Awareness Ministry

The purpose of the Health Services Ministry is to promote wellness and awareness on health topics that affect the African American community. This ministry strives to educate the church community on preventative care to promote desirable health and family outcomes. Since 2005, this ministry has sponsored annually a Community Health Fair in conjunction with health Awareness Day. The fair provides free health screenings such as, Blood Pressure Check, AIDs Testing, Cholesterol, Diabetes, Children Identification Card and various health publications.
The Emergency Medical Response Team will be composed of members with health care experiences who possesses current CPR Certification and the ability to function in an emergency medical situation.

The purpose of the Pastor Support ministry is to provide unconditional support and service to the Pastor of Greater Mount Olive in hopes of making his job easier and more rewarding through supportive measures. This ministry was developed to facilitate assistance and support for the Pastor in whatever areas necessary. Members of this ministry are dedicated to lending themselves freely and whole-heartedly to assisting the Pastor as he fulfills his obligations in the every day business of the church. The ministry seeks Greater Mount Olive members that have a willing, compassionate and giving spirit. Members interested in participating in this ministry should truly love Pastor Dixon and have been lead by the Holy Spirit to render random acts of kindness on behalf of the Pastor. The on-going goal of this ministry is to provide spiritual support for the Pastor's work. Some of the responsibilities of the Pastor Support members are supporting the Pastor when he ministers to other church congregations, community services and activities and assist in the planning of special events. The most important responsibility of this ministry is to offer moral and spiritual support in whatever endeavors the Pastor embarks upon.
